Getting Started

NOTE: For best results complete the steps in the order listed.

  1. Read the Start Here page to learn how to successfully complete this class (you'll find a link to it in the Course menu).
  2. Read the Syllabus page to learn when assignments are due (you'll find a link to it in the Course menu).
  3. Download and extract the Data Files you will be using throughout this course (click on the How to Download & Extract Data Files link below).
  4. Learn how to access the Microsoft Visual Studio application or other integrated development environment (IDE) for coding and ideally also for publishing assignments.
  5. Learn how to use FTP to get connected to the Student Web server for publishing your assignments in later weeks (see Getting Started Assignment overview below).
  6. Learn how to email your instructor the correct URL for all of your completed assignments (see What URL to Use for Viewing Your Completed Assignments overview below).
  7. Textbook: Since CSIS 115A is a pre-requisite for this class you should already have your textbook. If you do not have the textbook listed in the textbook box at the top of the Syllabus, order it immediately, you will need it to complete the Tutorial 8 Review Assignment.

Be sure you take the time to read and fully understand each of the Getting Started lessons listed below. Everything MUST be completed before the beginning of Week 2. Please email me if you have any questions at all!

You do not need to publish the completed tutorial, but the knowledge you learn from completing the tutorial will be very beneficial in helping you to complete the Review Assignment which you will publish for grading.
