Usually an IDE has a multiple-document drag and drop interface with features like code completion and the ability to extend the program with plug-ins or add-ons of some type to increase finctionality. Visual Studio .NET developer's interface from Microsoft was one of the first of this new application development genre. The open-source product Eclipse would also fall into this category.
